About the trainers

Mark Standley (MSc)

Mark delivers all courses based at the Fleet location. Mark started his career in the construction industry working as a mechanical and electrical quantity surveyor. After gaining extensive experience working for major contractors and also working within a busy contract claims department, he worked as a PQS, setting cost plan budgets and analysing contractor’s Final Accounts. Mark moved into consultancy in 1988.

Joining Maitland QS in 1992, Mark was appointed director in 1996 and is now jointly responsible for the overall success and expansion of the business and continues to work on matters of dispute resolution and claims recovery. In 2002 Mark became an accredited Mediator.

Donny Mackinnon  (FCIOB, FCIAB, FRICS, FCInstCES)

Donny delivers all our courses in Scotland and is also delivering a number of courses using the Zoom format, including our Arden University backed Construction Contractual Dispute Avoidance Programme.   

Donny is an experienced and multi-disciplined construction professional: a Chartered Construction Manager, a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and a Chartered Arbitrator (qualified in both domestic and international commercial arbitration). He is an independent expert who sits as a construction industry arbitrator and adjudicator and is CIOB Accredited in Adjudication.

Donny specialises, through his experience as a Chartered Construction Manager, in construction process and planning (including delay analysis and productivity disruption), in standards of work and defects and, through his experience as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, in quantum (measurement and valuation) on construction and engineering projects.

Donny’s independent expert work covers valuation, delay analysis, calculating disruption/lost labour productivity, and standards of workmanship. 

He is the Chairman of the CIArb Scottish Branch and a past Education Convenor.    

Andrew Redfern (Bsc)

Andrew delivers all courses based at the Burton-on-Trent location and at individual company premises for in house training where requested. Andrew has worked as a Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager for, and on behalf of , Specialist Contractors for 17 years, including Andover Controls, TAC and Tyco/ADT.

In 2002 Andrew formed Redfern Contract Consultants, with the aim to support and assist Specialist Contractors by providing Commercial and Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Planning and Dispute Avoidance advice and expertise. Andrew has had ‘hands on’ experience in many specialist contracting sectors including BMS, Fire and Security, Asbestos removal, Audio & Visual, Roofing, Flooring and Electrical Installation.

Howard Klein (FCIArb, FCIOB, FCinstCES, MRICS)

Howard delivers courses from our Warrington and Corby venues and at company premises. Howard is a Chartered Arbitrator, Accredited Adjudicator, Chartered Construction Manager and Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 30 years’ experience as a main contractors’ commercial manager before commencing his own practice in 1991 providing commercial and contractual support to contractors and sub-contractors to avoid disputes or to assist in resolving disputes by representing parties. Also an accredited expert witness advising upon extensions of time, valuations and costs of events leading to direct cost and prolongation cost claims.

Terms of application

  1. We/I hereby apply for Associate Membership of the Confederation of Construction Specialists.
  2. We/I understand that Associate Membership does not confer voting rights under the Confederation’s constitution.
  3. We/I understand that when the Confederation refers a member company to an Associate, any advice or help given is under the Associate’s own PI Insurance.
  4. We/I agree that this application will not be approved until the Management Committee has been granted an opportunity to comment on the application.
  5. We/I undertake to fully comply with and be bound by the Constitution and Code of Practice on admission to membership of the Confederation.
  6. We/I have understand that notice of intended resignation from membership must be provided, in writing, to the Confederation’s administrative office at least two months in advance of the membership renewal date.
  7. We/I have noted that as an Associate Member we/I will pay the annual subscription of £270 + VAT.

Terms of application

  1. We/I hereby apply for Contractor Membership of the Confederation of Construction Specialists.
  2. We/I understand that Contractor Membership confers voting rights under the Confederation’s constitution.
  3. We/I understand that when the Confederation refers a member company to an Associate, any advice or help given is under the Associate’s own PI Insurance.
  4. We/I agree that this application will not be approved until the Management Committee has been granted an opportunity to comment on the application.
  5. We/I undertake to fully comply with and be bound by the Constitution and Code of Practice on admission to membership of the Confederation.
  6. We/I have understand that notice of intended resignation from membership must be provided, in writing, to the Confederation’s administrative office at least two months in advance of the membership renewal date.
